Get ready for the Saga of the Socks, mama!
I had no idea that I would have so much stress and anxiety over clean socks!
At our house, there is always a large pile of clean laundry piled up on the sofa…
Waiting to be sorted and folded!
Now, folding the clothes isn’t too bad.
Infact, there is some research that shows that doing laundry can actually be therapeutic.
But it is the socks that drive me nuts!
I dread digging through the pile of laundry just to find matching socks!
It is even more stressful when we are in a hurry and trying to get out the door!
As a single mom with two little kids, it is hard to keep up with the laundry.
Other things seem to take precedence.
So, I toss the clean laundry into a pile on the sofa and wait for a free moment to fold.
As easy as that sounds, it is actually an utter nightmare when it comes to the socks!
It took me years to figure out how to sort and fold them quickly.
When I realized what I needed to do, I couldn’t believe that I didn’t think of it sooner!
Here is how you, too, can match and fold a large pile of mixed-up socks quickly!
1. Pull Out All the Socks!
Pull all of the socks that you can see right out of the pile of laundry.
Place them in a separate pile.
That’s it for this first step!
Easy, huh?
2. Sort By Person
Quickly go through the sock pile and sort them by person.
For instance, I put all of my socks into a pile.
Then I place my son’s socks into a separate pile.
Then my daughter’s.
It is a very quick and mindless process.
Do not worry about finding matching pairs at this point.
If you see a single sock that belongs to your husband, simply toss it into your husband’s pile.
Also, do not worry about turning socks inside out at this point either.
Just toss each sock into the right person’s pile.
3. Match and Fold by Person
Start with one person’s pile.
Begin matching and folding.
Once you get through that pile, go to the next person’s pile of socks.
Match and fold those.
Repeat this process until all family member’s socks have been matched and folded.
For example, I always start with my own pile of socks.
I match and fold my own socks first.
When I am done with that, then I move on to my son’s pile of socks.
I match and fold those.
Then I do the same with my daughter’s.
The process is like a miracle, really!
Very fast and very efficient!
4. Put The Socks Away!
Now that everyone’s socks are matched and folded, put them away!
This is the part where I have my children help me.
I like them to learn to help their mama out around the house.
It is good for them to learn a little responsibility and some family teamwork.
I put away my own socks.
My son puts away his own socks.
And my son and I help my daughter put away hers.
She is little so she still needs some help!
The Miracle of Sock Folding!
There you have it!
A little miracle that I wish that I would’ve figured out years ago!
If you have the same stress over socks, as I once did, then hopefully this is the answer for you!
Don’t let a large pile of clean laundry overwhelm you anymore!
Remember to pull all of the socks out the laundry and place them into a separate pile.
Then sort the socks by person.
After that, match and fold socks by each person’s sock pile.
Finally, put the socks away!
That’s it, my friends!
I hope that this makes your laundry drama much less dramatic and much more proficient!
